"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
My dad and I were talking today during lunch about people who give us trouble. I have my set of people that make my life a little more difficult. My dad also has his fair share of trouble makers. Being rash I showed my dad the anger I had for them. But my dad said to me that what I was thinking about them was wrong. He said, "we have to realize that we all need the same amount of grace as the people we dislike." He said this is what makes us equal with everyone, even though we don't feel like it. This is what Paul was saying here. In this chapter Paul rebukes Peter. Peter, having been one of the Jesus' favorite disciples and greatest advocate for the Christian faith, needed to be told what he was doing was wrong. I think it would be a considerable achievement if I were to fully and completely realize this. We all are saved by grace. We may appear good to other people, or even to ourselves, because we do what is recognized as faith. But we can never think that the law is what saved us. That what we do is what faith is. Faith is accepting the blood of Christ as the essential piece to the puzzle of sin. We need to understand this in ourselves before we try to help anyone else out.
