"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
So this is how we should give. God loves a cheerful giver. In the beatitudes Jesus explains the principles behind giving. He reminds us that as followers we should be able to give freely with love. We should be able to give without recognition or anything in return. When the rich ruler comes to Jesus to ask what more he can do to inherit the kingdom of heaven Jesus replies to give everything he has to the poor. I kind of thought that we as Christians should give to whoever and whenever...with love. I thought it was kind of impossible to do that you know? Its hard to give up what you want to buy for the sake of someone else. This verse here tells us that we are to give what we want to give. Now, a ordinary heart in this world would translate that as not having to give at all. After all we don't really want to give something of value to us right? Wrong. For Christians it should come out of his heart to give because he loves God. So with that in mind each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give. God loves a cheerful giver. =]
